When we had the idea of Sprogs we wanted to support the Fairtrade concept as much as possible. We actively search out Fairtrade and ethically produced products to promote and to date, about half of all our toys are from Fairtrade suppliers.
We have wooden toys from the Maya project in Southern India. The wood for the toys is from sustainable sources of local halewood or rubberwood trees. The colouring is of natural vegetable dyes and the finish is a natural resin called lac.
We have lots of wooden jigsaw puzzles, height charts, name plaques, and clocks all made to Fairtrade standards in Sri Lanka. The wood used for most of the products is from rubberwood from exhausted plantations.
Our rag dolls are hand made of cotton fabric and wool to Fairtrade standards, with no children involved at any stage in the production cycle. The workers have equal opportunities, good working environments and good rates of pay.
We will continue to source products that are ethically produced and environmentally friendly as we feel very strongly that this is the forward for the future of our children and our planet.
